Feature Poet: Lara Bozabalian
As a member of the 2009 Toronto Poetry Slam Team, Lara Bozabalian competed at the American National Poetry Slam and the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word. As an individual performer, she represented Toronto at the 2008 Individual World Poetry Slam and also competed at the 2009 Women of the World Slam. She is a founding member of Toronto Poetry Project, a collective oriented towards creative change and writing opportunities. As an English teacher, she founded and runs SW: Be Heard, a spoken word festival for students across York Region.
Her writing has appeared in journals and two literary anthologies, and a full length collection of poetry, The Cartographer’s Skin.
Wondering where your $5 goes? The cover charges go towards a prize for the winner ($60), remuneration and travel expenses for our guest features, and if extra funds allow, prizes for the other finalists. The cash also covers incidental costs like photocopies, posters, etc.
