Saturday Brunch

March’s Workshop with Alessandra Naccarato

0 Comments 14 March 2011

March 19, 12pm-2pm
Palace Theatre, 710 Dundas Street East (in Old East Village)

Get ready to feed your mind. March’s feature poet, Alessandra Naccarato, will be leading this month’s free workshop, called “Beyond the 10 point scale.”

This workshop is an opportunity for poets to share work in a safe environment, receive constructive feedback and find tools to further their performance in spoken word and slam poetry. Participants will be guided through activities based on Augusto Boal’s Theatre of the Oppressed to break down existing habits and tendencies, nerves and inhibitions. In a facilitated mock-slam structure, individuals will have a chance to perform, receive feedback and assess their peers. This process will strengthen participant’s ability to evaluate others and their own technique.

Please come to the workshop with a piece you would like to work on (under five minutes in length), and a printed copy for the facilitator.

Some elements of performance that will be discussed:

* Engaging the audience

* Finding your voice

* Gesture and movement

* no food will be served, we just think we’re cheeky when we say “food for thought.” If you are a purveyor of food and would like to sponsor LPS Saturday Brunch, please contact Melissa @ londonpoetryslam [at] gmail.com
