Aug London Poetry Slam ft Niizhoo Awaasis

Performer sign up is at 7:30pm, so don’t be late!

This month our feature poet is Niizhoo Awaasis!

Niizhoo Awaasis – Caribou and Marten hand drumming hip hop duo, Niizhoo Migizi Kwe (Shawna Redskye) and Sâkihitowin Awâsis (Cortney Dakin) fuse spoken word and northern vocables in embodied storytelling traditions. Awâsis is a geographer, writer, poet, water protector, and Phd student at Western University. Their research focuses on energy justice in Anishinaabeg pipeline resistance. Niizhoo Migizi Kwe is a singer-songwriter, potter babe, and student at Trent University who hopes to cultivate medicine for Anishinaabe Aki miinawaa Nibi.

Slam price: ONLY $5
Slam rules: Sign up call at 7:30pm, team pieces welcome, no props, no costumes, no nudity, no hate speech, original work only, memorization is optional.
