Our July workshop will be facilitated by London Poetry Slam team member, Zayn Ojoawo!

Birds with no wings never leave home, people with wings never return. We will all return to ash and dust will eventually claim the fire. Even songbirds are quiet when a baby laughs. Some things sound the same in every language. Birds will teach to those who will listen. Come, listen, there are many things hidden to be learned.

Zayn is an emerging poet based in London, ON. He studied English and Writing at Western University and will be competing at CFSW with the London team. Born in Ibadan, Nigeria, Zayn moved with his family to Canada in December of 2001. His experience growing up around the rampant racism that followed 9/11 heavily informs his writing. Zayn writes on issues of race, religion, sexuality, class, and what it’s like to live in the intersection of all of them.
